Scout.com Player Evaluation:
STRENGTHS
 Size
 Toughness
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
 Burst Out Of Breaks
 Closing Speed
Possessing a solid build as well as top size/speed numbers, Nelson is best suited as a conventional strong safety.

Biography:

Three-year starter named All-Conference the past two years. Senior numbers were 88/1/5, after 64/1/5 as a junior.

Pos:

Big, tough safety who is best defending the run. Possesses a burst of closing speed, squares into tackles and wraps up. Shows a willingness to get involved in the action, and is a big-time hitter. Diagnoses the action, remains disciplined and stays with assignments.

Neg:

Not efficient and does not consistently take good angles to the action. Bites on receivers’ moves, gets turned and loses assignments. Not fluid pedaling in reverse.
