Biography:
THE STATS: James Harris is a very talented athlete who received Honorable Mention All-State Underclass honors his junior year after totaling 1,350 yards receiving and over 2,000 all-purpose yards. PrepStar Magazine tabbed him for All-Region honors in their January, 2004 issue. Harris was slowed his senior year by breaking his collarbone and finger but still managed to register 38.5 yards per catch and six touchdowns despite usually drawing double coverage. James is considered a “sleeper” with a lot of upside potential. Although not possessing the press clippings of other recruits, he fits the physical profile and character of other prototypical college players that Oregon has been so successful uncovering in the past. Expect Harris to be tried on both sides of the ball since the Oregon staff is known to also covet him as a safety prospect.

STRENGTH: Harris recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.57 seconds and a 20-Yard Shuttle time of 4.27 seconds at the Nike Football Camp. His vertical jump was 33.4 inches and he was able to bench 22 repetitions of 185 pounds.

PROJECTED POSITION: Wide Receiver, Safety

WHY OREGON? "When I grew up, it was the jerseys and the helmets - everything was coordinated," James told TheInsiders.com. "I've always wanted to play for Oregon. The facilities are great, they have a great program, are in the Pac-10 and have a great tradition."

Harris chose Oregon over Nevada.

MIKE BELLOTTI: "James Harris safety out of Oakmont High School in Roseville, 6-1, 208 pounds, 2002 Honorable Mention All State, was hurt a little bit this year, and actually all everything both ways as an offensive receiver and defensive player. We are going to chose to look at him primarily on defense although I will probably take a look at him as an athlete in a lot of different situations. Very, very talented. We had the good fortune having him in our camp this summer and he stood out and we have been following him and our very excited about him joining our program."
