Two players have been ruled academically ineligible and are not expected to the remain on the team according to the University of Oregon Athletic Department. Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly in a statement indicated that Tyrece Gaines and Diante Jackson failed to maintain the minimum academic standard required by the NCAA.

Both football players joined the school’s program last fall, with Gaines transferring from Butler County (Kan.) Community College and Jackson graduating from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Jackson did not play in any games last season as a redshirt freshman, while Gaines participated in one play vs. Purdue. Neither player was listed on Oregon’s two-deep roster heading into the start of the 2010 season.

A spokesman for the athletic department also added that neither player is expected to remain with the team.
