One of the top JUCO offensive line prospects in the country this year turned out to be City College…
Lineman Decides on Ducks after Visit
"I felt comfortable with the coaches," said Clanton of his decision to go to Oregon. "I felt a good vibe from talking to Chip Kelly, and Steve Greatwood is one of the best O-line coaches in the nation. With his coaching I feel I can reach my full potential."
Clanton also mentioned that academically, Oregon has several programs that he is interested in. Even though he has not yet decided upon a major, he has three years to complete two years of eligibility. Clanton very much wants to earn a degree at Oregon. His other aspiration is going on to the NFL.
Another factor for Clanton was that Jeremiah Masoli and Blake Ferras, also alumni of SFCC, had an impact on him. While both were a little ahead of Clanton's time at SFCC, the pair (especially Masoli) made an impression on him during his official visit this weekend.
"I definitely felt comfortable with him," Clanton said of Masoli. "With him running the offense I was convinced to commit there."
Perhaps one of the biggest factors in Clanton's decision are the guys on the offensive line who remind Clanton of himself, and he feels he fits right in with the rest of the group.
"I feel I can get along and be able to gel with guys," Clanton said. "All I can do is give my all to help Oregon."
Clanton will graduate from SFCC this December, and plans on enrolling for winter term at Oregon. He will also be able to participate in spring workouts with the Ducks.
The big linemen is a product of Bakersfield Christian HS (Bakersfield, Calif.).
