Class of 2011, four-star tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is hearing from over 14 schools but is focused on his current football season at Gig Harbor in Washington.
Playing as one of the top tight-end prospects from the West Coast has brought attention from all the Pac-10 schools, in addition to attention from East Coast teams like
Boise State
,
Miami
Florida
,
North Carolina
,
Oklahoma
, Florida, and
Notre Dame
.
“I’m excited, and it’s something that I am proud of,” said Jenkins about all the offers.
Jenkins has been out to see
Oregon
,
Washington
,
Washington State
,
Texas
,
Stanford
, and North Carolina.
All schools are looking to keep Jenkins at tight end and not moving him to line positions around the ball due to the hard work that Jenkins put in during the offseason.
Jenkins cut 20 pounds over the summer and added muscle, strength and speed.
“I worked my butt off,” he said, and he wants to continue to get better.
Notre Dame is the only school recruiting Jenkins as tight end, offensive and defensive tackle, and defensive end.
“They’re recruiting me as an athlete, so I’m pretty excited about that.”
The 6-7 tight end has his junior football season that will take higher priority over the college hunt for the time being.
“I’m going to start this spring after football season. I’m going to start cutting my list down and seeing what all the schools have to offer.”
Jenkins is not interested in playing on the offensive line but has three things he will be looking at when selecting a school.
He will factor in academics, how much the team uses their tight end, and how many NFL tight ends has the school produced.
Jenkins and the Gig Harbor High School spread offense have started the season 0-2 against two of the best teams in the division but both in close games determined by turnovers.
“We're competing, and we're doing really well. We got a team this coming week that were going to beat. I’m excited were going to get on the right track this week.”
