Johnson Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- University of Oregon running back Jeremiah Johnson was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week on offense for Week 14, commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.

The senior from Los Angeles set a new standard for rushing in the Civil War, piling up 219 yards and a touchdown in the Ducks' 65-38 thrashing of Oregon State. Included among his 17 carries were runs of 79 and 83 yards, the second of which was a spectacular scoring play where he broke tackles and stiff-armed his way down the sideline before reaching the end zone.

With his career day, Johnson surpassed 1,000 yards rushing for the season - a feat accomplished only 13 times previously at Oregon. His 2008 total of 1,082 yards ranks ninth for a single-season and his 2,217 career yards are good for eighth on the school's all-time list.

The weekly conference honor was the first of his career in his last possible opportunity. He currently ranks fourth in the Pac-10 in rushing at 90.2 yards per game.

Arizona State safety Troy Nolan (defense) and kicker David Buehler of USC (special teams) were the Pac-10's other honorees this week.
