The University of Oregon announced today that quarterback Nate Costa will undergo surgery to repair damaged cartilage and likely miss a minimum of eight to 10 weeks as a result.

Nathan Costa was the starting quarterback for the Oregon headed into the season's opener against Washington on August 30, but was sidelined last Thursday when he felt pain in his surgically repaired left knee.

Costa's left knee was operated on last winter to repair torn ligaments in his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). The University announcement also indicated that the status of the ACL and MCL will be made during the upcoming surgery.

Red shirt sophomore Justin Roper will now be the starter for the Ducks against the Huskies and will be backed up by junior college transfer Jeremiah Masoli, freshmen Chris Harper and Darron Thomas.
