First Day Was a Success For Roper

Justin Roper

When Justin Roper walked off the field after the 74th annual Brut Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas last December, he had just completed his first starting assignment as a Duck quarterback. The Ducks were a 56-21 winner, and Roper got his name in the Sun Bowl record books along the way.

Justin Roper was the fifth string quarterback for most of the 2007 season, but if there was any question about his capabilities he had answers in the form of a 17-for-30 passing day for 180 yards and four touchdowns without any interceptions in the Sun Bowl. The four touchdowns tied a Sun Bowl record set by Joey Harrington in the 1999 Sun Bowl.

Roper took the field at Autzen Stadium on Tuesday when the Oregon Ducks held the first practice of the 2008 spring workouts. Roper was very confident in his throwing and showed why the quarterback position this year for the Ducks will be in good shape. The soft-spoken Roper was accurate hitting receivers on various routes during the three-hour session.
