EUGENE – University of Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon and defensive end Nick Reed have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 first team, as voted on by college and university sports information directors throughout the western portion of the United States and Canada.

As a result of the vote by collegiate sports publicists in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and the Yukon, Dixon and Reed now become eligible for the magazine's academic All-America consideration.

Dixon possesses a grade point average of 3.33 and already has completed requirements for his major in sociology and a minor in communications, and will graduate at the end of the current fall term. The San Leandro, Calif., senior already is the recipient of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete award and its accompanying $18,000 post-graduate scholarship, in addition to being a finalist for the Draddy Trophy, which is award to the nation's top collegiate scholar-athlete.

Reed has maintained a 3.39 gpa in history. The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., junior was named a second-team Pacific-10 Conference academic all-league recipient a year ago.

Earning second-team academic all-district honors was Washington State quarterback and former Sheldon High School standout Alex Brink.
