EUGENE, Ore. — Forward Frantz Dorsainvil (pronounced FRANCE DOR-sen-vil), last season’s top scorer and rebounder at Vincennes University, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Oregon men’s basketball team, head coach Ernie Kent announced Thursday. He will be a junior for the upcoming 2006-07 season.
“Frantz will have an immediate impact on this team,” said Kent. “He’s a power forward with size strength and explosiveness who will challenge our opponents. You can tell he’s a tremendous worker who has been very well-coached and is an intelligent basketball player as well.”
The 6-8, 260-lbs., Dorsainvil averaged 10.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore on a well-balanced Vincennes squad that posted a 26-6 record and won the Region 12 championship for coach Everick Sullivan. The Blazers advanced to the NJCAA District 11 playoffs before falling to eventual national semifinalist
Iowa
Western.
Dorsainvil, a computer engineering major who speaks three languages, shot 52.5 percent from the field last season (127-of-242) and 64.2 percent (88-of-137) at the free throw line. He scored in double figures 16 times, including a career-high 25 points against Florissant Valley on Nov. 25, and had four double-doubles. Vincennes posted a 48-16 record during Dorsainvil’s two seasons.
Born in Haiti, Dorsainvil moved to his hometown of Montreal, Canada, as a child. He then attended Winchendon Prep in Massachusetts and Elizabeth High School in New Jersey and before enrolling at Vincennes. He averaged 18 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior at Elizabeth High in 2003-04 .
