The Oregon Ducks dropped their first game of the season to the Vanderbilt Commodores, 76-75 in the final second when Mario Moore hit a running 3-point shot as time expired. Malik Hairston's 25 points led the Ducks, on a 10-for-16 shooting night. Overall however the Ducks only shot .484 (30-for-62), including 8-for-17 from 3-point range. Vanderbilt shot .627 (32-for-51), 7-for-15 in 3-pointers.
The Ducks had as much as an 11 point lead in the 2nd half but a stiff Vanderbilt defense gave the Commodores the lead in the final 2 minutes of the contest. With just 20 seconds left in the game,
Aaron Brooks
hit a shot as he drove the lane leaving just 3.3 seconds left on the game clock. Vanderbilt was able to inbound the ball after a timeout and drive the length of the court and the ball was in Moore's hands as he lofted a prayer that was answered.
The Ducks lead at halftime 35-30.
Brooks had 22 for the game and
Bryce Taylor
contributed 11.
Derrick Byers had 19 for Vanderbilt, Moore had 15 while
Ted Skuchas
and
Julian Terrell
both had 12.
