ACL shortens Allen's season.
Allen had appeared in a total of 20 games in his two varsity years at Oregon. His biggest effort was a 42-yard reception and run against Utah in his redshirt freshman year of 2001. The 6-1 receiver has a total of 10 receptions in his two years on the field for 215 years or a 21.5 average. He was expected to compete for a starting position opposite senior Samie Parker. While Parker is considered a speedster, Allen is known as a player with great strength and good size for a wide receiver.
In a Register-Guard Story by Rob Moseley, (Voluntary workouts prepare Ducks for fall, dated July 23, 2003) Oregon strength and conditioning coach Jim Radcliffe had a very interesting statistic. In 15 years of tracking, 80 percent of the players that do not complete the summer work out regime suffer an injury by the third game of the season. Ironically enough, Allen indicated that he was not in Eugene for the entire summer.
"I went home for a few weeks and worked out at home," Allen said last Tuesday.
Allen felt that this year's Ducks were more grounded than last and were ready to do what is necessary to be successful. Keith was at Oregon for the good times with the like of Joey Harrington and Rashad Bauman, but also felt the sting of disappointment of a 7-6 record last year.
"I think the real biggest difference (between the team going into this camp this year as opposed to last year) is that we aren't spoiled anymore," Allen observed.
Now, Allen must wait on the sidelines and hope he is recovered by next season
The Ducks face Mississippi State on August 30, 2003 in the season opener.
