Oregon 41-13 at the Half

Mariota

EUGENE – Third ranked Oregon took control of its game with South Dakota as Marcus Mariota threw three touchdown passes and ran in a fourth as the Ducks headed into the locker room leading the Coyotes, 41-13.

Oregon racked up 465 yards of total offense with Marcus Mariota throwing for 267 yards on 14-of-20 with TD passes to Dwayne Stanford (62 yards), Byron Marshall (41 yards) and Marshall again for 11-yards. Marshall escaped Mark Helfrich’s doghouse from the previous possession when he broke off a 55-yard TD run only to toss the ball just before the ball crossed the goal line. The ball went out of bounds and was ruled a touchback after the play was reviewed.

Had Marshall scored on the play that resulted in a touchback that would have given him a rushing score but as it turned out freshman Royce Freeman more than made up for the mistake with two touchdown runs of 1 and 26 yards. Mariota scored on a 1-yard run of his own just before the half ended to complete a 10-play drive cover 76 yards accomplished in one minute and 22 seconds.

Marshall was the leading rusher for the game in the first half with 58 yards on two carries while starter Thomas Tyner had 50 net yards on seven carries. Freeman finished the half with 48 yards on five totes and Mariota added 43 yards on six carries.

Marshall was the leading receiver with 117 yards on six receptions while Darren Carrington had four receptions for 68 yards.

South Dakota kicked two field goals by Myles Bergner of 47 and 25 yards. The Coyotes mounted a six play, 75 yard drive culminated by Trevor Bouma’s 3-yard run into the endzone.

So far in the game, South Dakota has 215 yards of total offense.
