"I got a lot of questions answered," Newsome said. "I like the plans they have for me in the future."
Having drawn comparisons in the past to former college stars Tavon Austin and Brandin Cooks, Newsome's blend of speed and athleticism elicited comparisons between him and former Duck De'Anthony Thomas from the coaching staff during the visit.
"My frame is just a little bit bigger," Newsome said. "As far as the type of player, they think I'm just like him."
Although he spent an equal amount of time with wide receivers coach Matt Lubick and offensive coordinator Scott Frost, the highlight of the trip for Newsome was the time he spent with head coach Mark Helfrich.
"He's a really genuine guy," Newsome said. "Watching him on TV and seeing him doing interviews, you wouldn't think he would be the way he is. But he's awesome. He's a great guy and a great human being."
Since it was his first time meeting the staff in-depth, Newsome's goal was get to know them each as well as he could during the visit and not focus on the material things such as the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex and connections to Nike.
"I just wanted to look past that for a moment and see if I could see myself really fitting in to the offense, into the community and things like that," Newsome said.
During his additional time there, Newsome discovered similarities between Eugene and his hometown of Aledo.
"It's a small town environment, something I'm kind of used to," he said. "I'm not a real party goer. It'll be kind of like I'm at home as far as the comparison. It's a great place with great coaches and great people."
Now eager to spend some time at home, Newsome will be releasing a list of his Top 5 favorite programs next Saturday and the Ducks have a good shot at landing on the list. In a show of respect for each of the program's who didn't make the cut, Newsome notified each of them and thanked them for recruiting him.
"I basically told 26 schools that I wasn't interested right before I announced that I would be announcing my Top 5," he said. "That was tough. But it had to happen sometime. I was just making sure I did it the right way and didn't leave a bad taste in anybody's mouth."
Newsome described the cut as a "long time coming", but knows the fun in just starting.
"I'm just really anxious to announce it," he said. "Then let the games begin, I guess."
