Pyne Named MPSF Rookie of the Week

WOODLAND, Calif. – Freshman Bella Pyne was named this week's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday evening. Pyne netted five goals over the two-game road sweep for the Ducks this past weekend. The two wins put Oregon in position to play for the No. 1 seed in the MPSF Tournament this week against Denver and Colorado.

This is the first rookie of the week honor for Pyne and the third weekly award winner for Oregon (10-5, 6-1) this season. Shannon Propst won offensive player of the week in the first week of voting while Caroline Federighi earned defensive player of the week honors in week eight.

Playing for the first time at USC as a program, Pyne helped the Ducks come out victorious, 10-8, as she scored the equalizing goal with 6:32 left in the first half to make it 4-4. The freshman also recorded two groundballs and caused one turnover in the win.

The Edgewater, Md., native then had a career-day at San Diego State, netting a career-high four goals. The four points at SDSU also set a career-high for the freshman.

Pyne helped Oregon start the second half against SDSU with a 3-0 run thanks to her natural hat-trick. She then finished off with her fourth goal in the waning moments of the game. Pyne was also 1-for-1 in free-position opportunities in UO's 13-6 win on over the Aztecs.

The first-year midfielder is sixth on the team with 18 goals and eighth in points with 18. Pyne is second on the team with 14 goals in conference play, trailing teammate Nikki Puszcz (15) by just one goal. The freshman is also the fourth highest point-scorer for the Ducks in MPSF play with 14.

Pyne will lead Oregon into its final two home games at Papé Field against Denver at 5 p.m. (PDT) on Friday, April 25, and Colorado at Noon (PDT) on Sunday, April 27, for senior day.
