Swain Previews Oregon Official

Olathe (Kan.) Olathe North linebacker Jimmie Swain

Olathe (Kan.) Olathe North linebacker Jimmie Swain will be busy this Thanksgiving when he takes a trip to Eugene.

Friday will be the last chance for Oregon to host official visitors for the 2013 regular season as they take on rival Oregon State in the Civil War. One of the big names in town will be TCU verbal commit linebacker Jimmie Swain. A four-star prospect, the Olathe North outside linebacker had Oregon high on his list before committing to the Horned Frogs in early August.

However, Oregon linebackers coach Don Pellum has stayed with Swain and convinced him to take an official visit that will start when he arrives on Thanksgiving Day.

"I just continued to communicate with the linebackers coach, Coach Pellum," Swain said. "I got some good information on the school and everything like that and it made me want to get out there and see it in person."

Swain said that the trip will give him a chance to build his relationship with Pellum in person. After watching the Ducks in person this season, Swain has been impressed by their effort, outside of last week's loss to Arizona. If the trip indeed goes well, things could become interesting for him.

"Depending on how well the visit goes, it could have a huge impact on my decision," Swain said.

Swain made it clear he is still solid with TCU, but said he is going into the visit with an open mind and is looking forward to experiencing everything Oregon has to offer athletically and academically.

"I'm just looking forward to getting to know the players, getting to know more of the coaching staff in person, getting to speak with them and the players and see how they feel about the university, not just the football team but the university as a whole," Swain said. "(I'm also looking forward to) getting to speak to a representative of the business school and getting to learn more about that."

Texas A&M just offered Swain, but he said that since he knows nothing about the school and that they haven't been on his radar, they aren't a serious player. Even after a recent trip to Arkansas, Swain believes he knows the schools he will choose from when it comes to his final choice.

"I did just take my official visit to Arkansas and it was nice," Swain said. "I enjoyed everything, the coaching staff was really good and I believe in what they're doing there. But I've always kind of thought at this point it's either going to be Oregon or TCU."
