EUGENE, Ore. -- As expected, the Oregon Ducks rolled through the first half of its game with Nicholls State University and went into halftime leading 38-3. The Ducks were led in the first half by sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota’s two rushing touchdowns and one touchdown pass. De’Anthony Thomas scored twice and rushed for 112 yards on seven carries.

Marcus Mariota had runs of 12 and 46 yards for scores plus found Bralon Addison for a 27-yard TD reception. Thomas started the Oregon scoring off with a six-yard run then followed up later in the first quarter with a 22-yard romp into the endzone.

Field goal kicker Alejandro Maldonado made the score 24-0 on a 29-yard kick.

Nicholls State University sole score was on a 35-yard field goal by Andrew Dolan in the second quarter.

One other notable item was the ejection of Oregon corner back Terrance Mitchell, after a helmet-to-helmet contact on NSU’s quarterback, Beaux Hebert, who was intentionally sliding on the ground after a short gain. The NCAA enacted a new rule for targeting which carries an automatic ejection. Mitchell is ineligible to participate in the second half, but will be eligible for next week’s game against Virginia.

For the half Oregon had a total of 367 yards including 221 yards rushing, while NSU was held to 129-yards of total offense.
