According to The Oregonian's website, oregonlive.com, Baldwin HS (Wailuku, HI) linebacker Jordan Hoiem has decided to give up football including an offer from the University of Oregon. Hoiem had verbally committed to Oregon on March 12, 2013.

Oregonlive.com, reports that Jordan Hoiem had experienced a loss of confidence stemming from the death of a close friend.

Scout.com's Greg Biggins also reported a similar explanation on eDuck.com's Talefeathers Message board Monday afternoon.

Oregonlive's report also indicates that Hoiem has been attempting to notify Oregon's defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti of his decision but it is not clear if has done so yet.

Hoiem was Oregon's first commit for the 2013 recruiting class. So far Oregon has received the verbal pledge from eight potential student-athletes to play football for Oregon, however verbal commitments are not binding.
