Oregon improved to 2-0 on the season defeating the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 5-3.
Sophomore pitcher Tommy Thorpe threw five solid innings, allowing nine base-runners, but only allowing one to score. Thorpe is the second Oregon pitcher to pick up a win this weekend, Jake Reed did so on Friday.
Ryon Healy set the tone offensively, opening the second inning with a double, later scoring on a Kyle Garlick single. He would double again in the third, scoring Brett Thomas and again in the seventh.
In the sixth inning, Thorpe was replaced by freshman Cole Wiper, who made his collegiate debut. Wiper struggled mightily, failing to get an out, giving up two runs. Darrell Hunter and Garrett Cleavinger replaced Wiper pitching three shutout innings before George Horton handed the ball off to All-American Jimmie Sherfy.
Known for his roller-coaster innings, but effectiveness in save situations, Sherfy didn't disappoint. The junior let the tying run on base and even let in a run before finishing the game with a fly out to left.
