Webb defeated Evangelical Christian on Thursday for the state championship and Todd Kelly, Jr. was a big part of that win.

Todd Kelly, Jr. had 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground, then he finished with a couple of big hits on defense in Webb's 47-14 win in the state championship game on Thursday.

He rarely left the field and he wouldn't have it any other way.

"I just wanted to win," Kelly, Jr. told Scout as he walked off the field Thursday evening. "Winning this game was the most important thing to me and my teammates. I don't really care how I played. It was about the team."

Both the team and Kelly, Jr. played well. Webb got out to a 27-0 lead at the half and the Spartans controlled the game from the start.

The win feels good.

"There couldn't be a better feeling for a high school football player than the one I have right now. Our team stepped up, we won the big game, and it feels great. It is exciting for the team and for the school."

Being a top prospect, Kelly, Jr. always attracts a lot of attention. Some good and some bad, but even with all the eyes on him, he felt no extra pressure Thursday.

"With me having all the offers and stuff, people always want to criticize me, but that is OK. As long as our team plays hard and wins, that is all that matters to me.

"People can say what they want, but our team won the state championship. I do not feel any extra pressure, it all just motivates me. I am blessed to be in my position, so I just play hard, we won today, and that is all that matters."

It is still over a year before this versatile junior will sign with a school, but he could be getting a little closer to narrowing down his schools.

"I am still not there yet, but I am getting there," he said. "I will probably have a list in the spring because I want to get out to the West Coast to see Stanford and USC first.

"I am not too far away, but I want to see a few more schools first to give them all a chance before putting a list together."

Kelly, Jr. is being recruited to play both cornerback and safety. Scout currently ranks him as the No. 18 safety in the 2014 class.
