Iowa Out on Edwards

2013 Michigan RB Berkley Edwards lost a school off of his list on Tuesday when Iowa rescinded his scholarship offer. His father, Stan Edwards, shared what the Hawkeye coaches told him.

Berkley Edwards has been down to three schools for some time. Two of them remain.

Iowa pulled out of the running on Tuesday, according Berkley's father, Stan Edwards.

"They said if Berkley didn't choose Iowa by now, he wasn't coming," Stan Edwards said in a text message.

Stan Edwards said on Monday that he and his family were waiting to see what happened with the coaching situations at the schools he was considering - Iowa, Cal and Minnesota. The Bears fired Jeff Tedford a day later.

It looks like the Gophers or a MAC offer for the 2013 Chelsea (MI) High running back unless Cal stays with the recruitment.

Stan said his son wasn't going to decide until he was ready. He wasn't.

The Hawkeyes are believed to have 15 verbal commitments in the Class of 2013. A gray shirt also is spoken for. The total should end up at around 20 scholarships awarded, meaning roughly five of them would be available.

You also might consider one of Iowa's 15 commitments to be on shaky ground. Cass Tech S Delano Hill appears to be looking around.

Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz spoke at Tuesday's press conference about focusing on recruiting this offseason. The Hawkeyes increased that time of the year Saturday in a 42-17 disaster in Ann Arbor.

"We don't have to worry about bowl preparation" Ferentz said. "That's in the books… so we can hopefully do a better job, more thorough job with our recruiting and also with player development and program development."

This game week will be Iowa's last time practicing until the spring. The work will have to come off of the field.

"There are still a lot of things to be covered," Ferentz said. "Again, if there is any upside in this whole thing, you don't have that time when you're recruiting and preparing for a game. Decembers are typically -- you're literally on a treadmill basically every day; probably not giving anything enough attention, quite frankly.

"That's probably true of recruiting, too, because you're trying to do two things at once. There is always work to be done." Recommended Stories
