PULLMAN – The Cougars were short a few good men on Monday. Still, they sired fire and energy on the practice field all evening and are clearly looking to instill the "next man up" philosophy. Coaches concur that the team has grown this season – and has a lot to look forward to in 2013.

Senior BUCK linebacker Travis Long and sophomore quarterback Connor Halliday were both absent from practice Monday, although Long was spotted in sweats watching from the sidelines. There have been reports circulating that both may have sustained injuries in Saturday's 46-7 loss at Arizona State. "Jeff will probably start this week," said coach Mike Leach.
