Redmond de-commits from Oregon

OL Alex Redmond

Los Alamitos (Calif.) offensive lineman Alex Redmond committed to Oregon back in the summer and looked very solid with the Ducks. On Wednesday, the lineman had a chance of heart and decided to open up his recruitment.

Alex Redmond is one of the top lineman, not just out west, but nationally as well. He's a physical guard prospect who received an invite to The Opening and did very well at the event showing the talent to compete against the best of the best.

Redmond took unofficial visits to Oregon and Washington last summer before committing to the Ducks. The big lineman said he thinks he may have committed a little too soon.

"In hindsight, I felt I kind of rushed my decision," Redmond said. "I only visited those two schools and didn't really see what else was out there. I watched a lot of college football this past season and I just want to make sure the school I pick is the best fit for me and where I can have the most success."

Redmond said Oregon's spread style offense is one that is obviously a lot different than the pro-style offense he currently plays in at Los Al.

"The type of lineman that I am, I'm more of a downhill, hit the guy in front of you type of player," Redmond said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Greatwood at Oregon and the whole staff as a whole. They convinced me that I would be a great fit in what they do and that I would be successful there.

"I don't want to make too much about the offense and what not or how I would fit in. There were other factors for me in opening things up, mainly just feeling like I did it too soon. Saying that, my ultimate goal is to make it to the NFL and I just want to try and find a place where I think I can have the best shot to do that. I'm not saying I have to play in a pro-style offense but I'm just looking for a school that will be the best fit for what I do best."

As for other schools that Redmond is looking at, he said he's open to everyone.

"There aren't any schools in particular for me right now, I'm looking at everyone who's interested," Redmond said. "I'm still looking at Oregon but other than that, I don't have any schools that I'm reaching out to or anything. This just happened last night so it's still really early for me.

"I'm open to staying close to home or leaving home, location isn't a factor for me. I just want to find a place where I'm comfortable with the school, the coaching staff and the offense, those are the biggest things I'm looking at."

Prior to committing to Oregon, Redmond had offers from Arizona State, Boston College, Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Washington and Washington State. Look for that list to grow quickly once word spreads about his de-commitment. The lineman dislocated his elbow and missed the last five games of the season this year but looked very good early in the year and has the talent to play for just about any school in the country.
