Isaac Hamilton Visits UCLA

Isaac Hamilton took a step forward in his recruiting process this weekend by officially visiting UCLA. His father, Greg Hamilton, talked to Scout.com about that trip and the recruitment in general...

After narrowing his school list to five, 6-foot-4, 175-pound Bellflower (Calf.) St. John Bosco 2013 shooting guard Isaac Hamilton added another college to the mix in local UCLA, which joined UNLV, Baylor, Washington, San Diego State and UTEP on the five-star prospect's final list.

Isaac's father, Greg Hamilton, told Scout.com on Sunday that a number of factors contributed to UCLA reemerging in the recruitment.

"UCLA's interest level has always been high," Hamilton said. "The interest we had was minimized, to be honest. I think what really changed things is that they're in our backyard number one, and number two you've got to look at the things they do and what they have there. We know the father of the Wear twins and I really like what they've done with them.

"A lot of kids leave and come back. That's a big factor. You've got to be careful going away. You can't just weed out a home school like UCLA without giving them a shot."

The mutual interest was proven when Isaac took an official visit to Westwood this past weekend.

"We had a fantastic visit," the elder Hamilton said. "I think Ben Howland is a really successful and accomplished coach. Like the old folks say, I'm going to give you what you need, not what you want. I think some of the things they have can really help Isaac be the player he needs to be going to the next level."

Greg Hamilton said that a trip to Washington is still being planned, and that the school list could be trimmed by one shortly.

"There are six schools involved and he's wavering on one of them," he said.

The plan for Isaac is to wait until the spring before making a decision.

"Right now he just wants to wait this thing out," Greg said. "He's going to sign in April. Waiting until the spring will give him the chance to see the systems.

"The recruiting process has been great; the six schools have done a great job recruiting Isaac. We have dealt with six great character head coaches and coaching staffs. That's why it's so complicated at this point."

While all the finalists are also recruiting Isaac's younger brother, Daniel Hamilton, their father says there are two schools in the mix that could end up splitting the two for the next level.

"Daniel is getting recruited by Kansas and Louisville, so those are two schools that Isaac hasn't been recruited by which Daniel likes," he said. "So those two schools are possibilities for Daniel. It's not 100% that they go to school together."
