The Oregon Ducks are finalizing preparations before they face the No. 22 Arizona Wildcats on Saturday in a home contest that is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30pm PST on ESPN and WatchESPN.com.
Oregon's matchup against the Wildcats will be the first ranked opponent they have faced all season and figures to be their toughest test of their adolescent 2012 college football season.
Arizona, mentioned previously as being ranked No. 22 in the latest AP Poll, has had a rather surprising start to their season after many believed they would need a year to rebuild under new Head Coach Rich Rodriguez. Quarterback Matt Scott has led their offense efficiently and the Wildcats have made a quick transition to a fast-tempo spread offense that some say resembles the Ducks.
Despite some similarities on the offensive side of the ball between the Ducks and Wildcats, Arizona's 3-3-5 defense goes outside the box of college football at times.
"It's just how they're spacing," said Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly about Arizona's defense during his Thursday media session. "One guy's either on the ball or off the ball. It doesn't present any monumental problems (to Oregon's offense)."
Coach Kelly also believed that the Ducks would not change their offensive attack when facing the Wildcats' defense.
"It's still how good are their players compared to how good are our players in terms of execution."
Other than potential adjustments to Arizona's defensive scheme, one other topic of interest on Thursday was the 7:30pm PST kickoff the Ducks will face against Arizona on Saturday and whether or not that changes gameday preparation.
While actual game preparation may be delayed to a later hour during the day, Coach Kelly assured the media that all gameday's are virtually the same (in terms of actually getting ready for kickoff).
"We know what to do when we play a 7:30 game," said Kelly. "It's just like a normal Saturday."
With preparations for the Ducks' contest against Arizona running smoothly, Oregon appears ready and fueled for their first Pac-12 game of the season.
You can watch the Ducks take on the Arizona Wildcats when they square off at Autzen Stadium on Saturday, September 22nd at 7:30pm.
