A Favorite Son Now of Colorado
"Our respect for Coach Bellotti and the Oregon program really soared when they extended Matt an offer so early," said Rob Slauson. "We had always been Duck fans living in Oregon. We were season ticket holders for 10 years and Matt grew up a Duck fan. We were very pleased."
So why hasn't Matt already committed to the Ducks?
"Matt also has interest in the Air Force Academy, Colorado and Colorado State," says Slauson. "He has also been getting some letters from Nebraska. I think he wants to look around at other schools and maybe take some official visits. At this point, I would say he is open but comparing every other program to Oregon."
Although Oregon is Matt's only scholarship offer to date, one might expect that to change in the future. Matt is one of the rare individuals who can match size with athleticism. He is capable of running the forty-yard dash in 5.15 seconds. He can throw the shot 54.8 feet and the discus 154.9 feet. He ranked 4th place in state (3A) in both events last year. Matt is also fully qualified with a 3.5 GPA and a SAT score of "somewhere around 1100."
"Matt is really a nice kid," says Slauson. "He gets along with everybody. He's a decent human being who cares most about being a quality person"
Matt will attend Air Academy High School for his senior year and aspires to study biology and perhaps sports medicine when in college.
