Hoffman Ends His Football Career

The University of Oregon announced the Head Coach Chip Kelly has confirmed on Friday that senior wide receiver Justin Hoffman will forgo his senior season based on advice from doctor.

Kelly made it clear though that Justin Hoffman will remain a part of the Oregon football program as an undergraduate assistant coach.

"Justin Hoffman epitomizes what a student-athlete should be," Kelly said. "No individual has worked harder to make himself a good football player and his contributions have been immeasurable. I am anticipating the impact he makes on this team from a coaching standpoint to be just as great as it was on the field."

In a media announcement the Oregon Athletic Department said Hoffman caught 10 passes for 133 yards in eight games a year ago, breaking into the starting lineup on six occasions and missing the final six games of last season. He completes his collegiate career with 13 catches for 148 yards.

The media release went on to say that Hoffman, a Pac-12 second-team academic all-conference selection was one of 15 Oregon athletes to volunteer for a trip to the Dominican Republic in June as part of a humanitarian effort to help construct athletic courts for kids.

Hoffman is expected to graduate next spring with undergraduate degrees in geography and psychology.
