As one of the top safety prospects on the West Coast, Rancho Cucamonga (Ca.) S Tahaan Goodman has…
How Close Is Goodman With Oregon?
"Yes, I have an offer from Oregon."
How long ago did you receive that offer from Oregon?
Do you recall which coach from Oregon offered you?
"No, I don't really remember. I think it was the head coach (Chip Kelly)."
What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since they started recruiting you?
"I talked to the head coach and the coach who's recruiting me a few times. (Oregon) came to the school two times and I talked to them then. I talked to the linebackers coach from Oregon (Don Pellum) and after that, I haven't talked to them in awhile now."
Have the Oregon coaches discussed with you potential dates for visits or anything like that?
"I'll probably take an official there maybe, who knows, or an unofficial because I'll be out there soon, so I might try to take an unofficial if I can."
In your conversations with the Oregon coaches, what kinds of things have they discussed with you? What do they like about you?
"They were saying their safety spot is just a ball-hawk and is about playing hard and playing strong. They told me with the way I am, I could put some weight on and they could teach me their defense."
What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?
"I have a lot of interest in Oregon, but I just haven't seen the school yet. I want to check it out and then I'll have more about it."
Is there anything in particular that stands out about Oregon when you consider them as a potential option?
"The gear (laughter). I believe if you look good, you play good. They're all fast-paced (too)...I like that kind of football that's more fast-paced because it's harder to stop fast-paced teams. It's easy to want to win with them and I could see myself doing that."
How would you describe yourself as a player?
?"I think I'm good all-around just because I've been practicing on my weaknesses and I got stronger. I'm able to play multiple positions and adjust to the offense. I'm a smarter player because of my I.Q. and I'm strong and fast."
Is there a player at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?
"Yeah, I like Ed Reed. I play like his style, just ball-hawking and reading the quarterback...I'm just that type of style. I like Deion Sanders a lot and Troy Polamalu."
What are you looking for in a program?
"There's a lot of things that will help me make a decision...Playing time -- I want to play the first year -- and other than playing the first year, I want to make sure the school will take care of me, the coaches will take care of me and help me get to the league. I want to go to a school where I'll like the coaches...I would like to see the players and see if they have a good team that could possibly win."
Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?
"I'm thinking about studying business, but I'm not for sure."
What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other programs?
"UCLA, California, USC, LSU, Arizona State, Arizona, Washington, Washington State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Wyoming, New Mexico..."
Do you have a top five or a list of favorites at this point?
"No, not yet. I'm going to make one soon though...I'm probably going to do it this weekend and have maybe like a top ten or 15."
As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where do you plan on going over the next few months?
"I'm going to take an unofficial to Oregon and to some of the schools that have offered me like Tennessee, maybe...maybe Washington again. Other than that, I don't know, I don't think anymore."
