Maclean Wants To Visit Eugene

Grand Blanc (MI) Grand Blanc Comm. LB Luke Maclean

Grand Blanc (MI) Grand Blanc Community linebacker Luke Maclean is another prospect from the Wolverine State that has his eyes on Oregon. Though he's mostly hearing from Midwest programs, Maclean says that the Ducks have caught his eye for myriad of reasons.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No sir."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"[Oregon] doesn't have a recruiting coach for this area, but it's mostly been through mail and e-mail and I REALLY would like to go out there sometime soon. It's just such a far trip for me here in Michigan, but one of my really, really good friends has an offer from Oregon. He lives here in Michigan -- his name is Cameron Dillard -- and he really likes them and he's always telling me I need to get my recruiting going with them a little more...I'd like to pick up with them a little bit, so I'm going to try to get a hold of more coaches from there and see how it goes."

How often would you say you've been receiving mail and e-mail from Oregon?

"Every day, Monday through Friday. Lots of it is generic stuff and some of it is more like invitations to Junior Days and stuff like that."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"They're a great school. Everything they send me tells me that they're the best in every aspect that a football player would be looking for from an educational standpoint, a football standpoint -- they compete for national championships yearly -- a degree from there is one of the tops in the country, the facilities are some of the best you could ask for; everything there is first class and the best of the best."

Is distance a factor for you?

"No, I'm open to wherever. Playing college football, you're only going to get to come home so much anyways; no matter if you're living close or across the country, you're going to have to be [at school] most of the time."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"If anyone has seen me play, the first thing they'd say is that I'm versatile. I play everywhere in the front seven: outside backer, inside backer, defensive end, defensive tackle. That would definitely be the first thing. Also, I'm smart and I play the position of linebacker really smart. I'm good at reading my keys and that's my strongpoint.

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after at all?

"For sure, Clay Matthews by far. I've had a couple of recruiting coaches make highlight films of him and we've sat down and watched him...He's a great athlete. He plays a position I would probably end up playing in college; outside linebacker that comes off the edge and rushes the passer a lot."

What are you looking for in a program?

"First off, education. Education is the reason you go to college, it's not to play college football; that's just how you get to college. Education is most important and you're going to have to fall back on that no matter what you do with your life. Also, a winning program is always nice. I don't like to lose -- I hate to lose -- so going some place where I'm going to win and has a nationally competitive program [is preferable]. Also, the coaching staff. They're going to be your family away from home, so you got to get along with them pretty well."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"No sir."

What offers do you currently have from other schools?

"Cincinnati, Central Michigan, and Buffalo."

Have there been any other schools that you've been in close contact with?

"Yes sir; Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse."

Do you have a top five or a list of favorites at this point?

"Not at this point...no sir."

As far as camps, unofficial visits, and Junior Days go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months?

"I've visited Georgia Tech twice, Notre Dame once, Michigan State several times -- more than three -- Michigan several times, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, I've visited Buffalo, and I think that's all the schools that I've visited."
