The Blue Devils have worked the state of Arizona harder than usual over the last few seasons, and…
Cox Says Ducks Recruiting Him "Hard"
"I currently don't have one, but they've been talking and just saying that they're a little different when it comes to the recruiting process, but they're definitely recruiting me hard."
What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?
"I've been keeping in touch with coach [Don] Pellum and I've been calling him and on Facebook with him and he says he really wants to get me out there. That's about it right now."
What kinds of things has coach Pellum told you they want to know or see before they extend you an offer?
"Well what they told me is that they really love to see a person first and they definitely want me to go out and see the campus, just because they think it's kind of ridiculous that these kids commit and have never seen the campus yet. They really want me to come out and coach Pellum said he's definitely going to come up at the beginning of May and see me in person."
Have you made any plans yet with coach Pellum as far as getting to Eugene for a visit sometime soon?
"I haven't yet. I haven't really made any plans. Especially if I were to receive an offer from Oregon sometime soon, I'd love to try to make a list and see some of the schools that I'm really looking at."
What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?
"Well I know they're top notch football. It's just a great program and I've always grown up kind of watching Oregon. They obviously have the cool jerseys, but definitely because of the program and talking to coach Pellum, one thing I really look for is faith in a program. Faith plays a huge role in my life and I want to build that relationship with coach Pellum, so that's something that sticks out. My relationship with the coaches and the players; that's huge there, so that's some of the stuff that means a lot to me."
How would you describe yourself as a player?
"One thing I think that really sticks out is, for my size, a lot of people say I'm real fast for my size; I run a 4.53 and I'm about 230 right now. I think that's something that really sticks out, as well as, not giving up on plays cause I'm always trying to get to the ball. Those are just some of the things that stick out when I'm playing."
Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional that you try to pattern your game after?
"A lot of people like Clay Matthews and I think, especially on the defensive side of the ball, I really like watching him because he's always never giving up on plays and always giving 100 percent to get to the ball. He's one person I really like watching and kind of try to play like."
In your conversations with coach Pellum, has he discussed with you whether he prefers you at outside or middle linebacker?
"We really haven't touched on that yet, but he says that they really like the character that I have and they said I'm a great athlete. Like I said, they take it a little bit slow cause they want the best out of the country. He's only offered I think three linebackers so far and I think he said he's going to offer 12, so I feel I still have that chance of receiving one."
What are you looking for in a program?
"Definitely like I said, faith sticks out a lot for me and again, a relationship I have with the players and coaches -- I want to go somewhere where I'm really going to enjoy playing and it's not going to be just some place where I don't enjoy it. Definitely discipline and character; that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I want to be playing with guys that got the same morals and want to work just as hard as I do. That's something that I look for. Then there's academics, cause football's only going to last so long, so I want to have a good background with my academics."
Have you given any thought as to what you might want to major in when you get to college?
"I've been looking in to sports medicine."
What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other programs?
"I have Arizona State, Arizona, Boise State, Duke, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Tulsa, Washington, Oregon State, Notre Dame, Nebraska...I think that's it right now. I have 13."
As far as camps, unofficial visits, and Junior Days go, where have you been and where do you plan on going over the next few months?
"Last fall I actually took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame and Nebraska...I took unofficial visits out there and those were great experiences. I think it was just last month that I went out to USC for their Junior Day and that was a great experience as well. As far as camps, I actually dislocated my shoulder in the regular season, so I had to get surgery after the season in early December, so I've been re-habbing it right now...I don't have any plans to go out to any as of now, but I'm hoping I can get out to some schools this spring or sometime in the summer. That's where I'm at right now."
