WNBA eyes 2 Cougs; Adzasu aims for Olympics

LOS ANGELES – The Washington State women's basketball team completed its season Friday at the Pacific-12 Conference tournament, but at least three Cougars hope they have plenty of basketball left to play this year.

Jazmine Perkins and April Cook have been invited to the Women's NBA scouting combine in Denver. The event will be tied in with the NCAA women's tournament Final Four, which starts April 1.

A third senior, Rosie Adzasu, has been invited to try out for Angola's Olympic team for the 2012 Summer Games in London. Angola is a small African nation. Adzasu was born in Africa and raised in Italy and West Linn, Ore.

All three players project as guards in the pros.

Perkins, a 5-foot-10 native of Berkeley, Calif., led the Cougars this season with 8.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals. She is the only WSU basketball player, male or female, ever to record 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 250 steals in her career.

Cook, listed at 5-8, overcame two herniated discs in her lower back to average 6.3 points, 1.1 assists and .86 steals this season. Cook, from the Los Angles suburb of Carson, often had to curtail her playing and practice time the past two seasons and leading the Cougars in scoring her freshman and sophomore seasons at 14 ppg both years.

Adzasu, listed at 5-5, averaged 6.4 points, a team-high 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals.
