Oregon senior tight end Brandon Williams will retire from football according to Head Coach Chip Kelly. In a release on Friday Kelly indicated Williams has a chronic injury. Williams had two catches last year but was slowed with an unrelated hand injury. The loss puts more pressure on an inexperienced group of back-up tight ends.

“Brandon has worked hard to overcome this latest setback but it is in his best interest to step away from the game at this time,” Kelly said. “His presence will certainly be missed.”

Brandon Williams will remain on scholarship at Oregon to complete his degree in sociology according to a media release from the Oregon Athletic Department.

Senior tight end David Paulson is the only player with game experience, however the Ducks do have red-shirt freshman Curtis White, who was a five-star player coming out of high school along with another five-star high school athlete, freshman Colt Lyerla. Lyerla enrolled in school for spring term and saw playing time during the spring game in April.
