Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln lineman Charles Howard committed to UNLV last month. With his only other…
Howard The Duck?
"No, I do not."
What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?
"One of the coaches came to my school campus and I've talked to him at school and through e-mail."
Do you remember which coach came and visited you?
"(Defensive line) coach (Jerry) Azzinaro."
How often have you been in contact with coach Azz?
"I e-mailed him one time and haven't heard back since then. I was supposed to go to the camp and I told him if I were able to make it, I would contact him, but I wasn't able to go."
In the conversations you've had with coach Azz, has he mentioned anything about a potential offer coming through for you?
"Yeah. He told me he likes me and that the (staff) is definitely looking in to it."
What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?
"I'm very interested in Oregon. As more time goes on, I really feel like it's a positive organization based on academics and athletics, and Oregon is definitely at the top of that list."
Is there something in particular that catches your eye when you consider Oregon?
"Well one, I've been told that they're -- and I haven't researched it yet -- but I know that they're really good at teaching business and I'm thinking about taking business and management. On top of that, they have a really good athletic program; they have facilities that are very nice. It's somewhere where I can see myself going to and that's a nice place."
Have you been to Eugene in the past?
How would you describe yourself as a player?
"Offensively and defensively, I think I get off the ball very fast. Defensively, I think I have pretty good instincts when I get off the ball; I perform a rip-type of move...but yeah, I think more than anything, I have good speed off the ball."
Is there anyone at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?
"I really like Darnell Dockett from the (Arizona) Cardinals. I'm not the biggest Cardinals fan -- at all -- but I like watching Darnell Dockett, I like his style of play. He plays really aggressive and he gets off the ball, he fires off and that's what I'm trying to build my reputation off of. I want to get off the ball fast and make a lot of plays and when I watch Darnell Dockett, he does that."
Are most schools looking at you for offensive line or defensive line?
"It's kind of mixed. I know Oregon, they're looking at me for defensive line, and so are a couple of other schools like Colorado. Other schools have talked about offensive line, like Oregon State, USC...they talk about offense."
Do you have a preference either way?
"I've thought about that, but I haven't really made a decision for myself. I'm more comfortable on defense, but whatever will help me bring me up on the depth chart or, for that matter, will help benefit the team most, is what I'll end up playing. If I had to choose, I'd say defense, just because I'm more comfortable with it."
What are looking for in a program?
"Coaching staff. I wanna go to a university where the coaching staff emphasizes academics before playing on the field and feels like a family that's very supportive. Then, on top of that, a team that's very family oriented. At the high school I go to now, Lincoln, it's like that. The coaches really care a lot about the grades more than the actual game and it's just a very family oriented program."
And you're planning on studying business when you get to college?
"Yeah. Business and management and kinesiology."
What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other schools?
"I don't have any offers on the table, currently."
Who are some of the schools that you've been speaking with whom you feel might be close to pulling the trigger on you?
"Boise State, Arizona State, Colorado, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State...mainly the Pac-12 Conference."
Out of the schools you've been hearing from, do you feel like you have a top list of schools or any favorites at this point?
"I haven't visited any campuses yet and I've just talked to the coaching staff from those (schools). Most likely, the school I'll go to will be in the Pac-12 Conference and probably the only exception to that would be Boise State...if I had to make (a favorites list) right now, it would be between Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Boise State and USC."
Where have you been in terms of camps and do you have any visits planned out for the rest of the summer?
"I've only been to two camps and they weren't really like official camps for colleges. One of them was the Nike Pro Combine SPARQ camp and I went to one last year at Stanford and the time before that, it was at USC."
