Quick Look At the 2011 Ducks

Darron Thomas' number changed from 1 to 5 this year but what may not have changed is Oregon dominance over the Pac-12. Here is an initial quick look at the Oregon Ducks.

The Oregon Ducks

Last Season: 12-1

Returning starters/letterwinners: 16/39

Key losses:

Jeff Maehl WR – Caught 77 passes for 1,076 yards and 12 touchdowns

Kenny Rowe DE – Lead teams in sacks with seven.

Casey Matthews MLB – Leading tackler with 79 (37 solos)

Key Returners:

Junior LaMichael James RB – 1,732 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. Doak Walker Award winner, 3rd place in Heisman Trophy ballet voting. Likely Heisman Trophy candidate in 2011.

Junior Darron Thomas QB – 2,881 yards and 30 touchdowns passing; 486 yards and five touchdowns rushing. Likely Heisman Trophy candidate.

Junior Cliff Harris CB – Scored four touchdowns on punt returns and one interception for a score. One of the most dynamic defensive players in football.

Best game:

At Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas vs. LSU on Sept. 3

Projected finish: 13-0

The Pac-12's defending champion dominated the conference last season, coming just 3-points short of the BCS title. This year's Ducks are loaded at every position and boasts the top running back in the nation and one of the very best quarterbacks. Slowing down Chip Kelly's offense is a major task and the Ducks look to be better defensively from a team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation last season for several weeks in a row. The opening game against LSU will likely match the No. 1 and 2 teams and the winner should hold he No. 1 spot for the rest of the season.
