Solis Says Oregon Interest Is "Very High"

Westlake Village (CA) Westlake DT Justin Solis

A wide body in the middle off the defensive line is thought to be a primary objective for the Oregon coaching staff this recruiting cycle. In Westlake Village (CA) Westlake three-star defensive tackle Justin Solis, the Ducks could have just that...if only Solis had an offer.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I do not."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"At first it was very minimal, then I went up there (for an unofficial visit) over spring break and I was talking to all the coaches and ever since then it's been pretty good."

What kinds of things did you discuss with the Oregon coaches while you were on your unofficial visit to the school?

"It was like every school, they were saying how great their program is and how good they're gonna be and things like that."

Who has been the coach from Oregon that's been in touch with you the most throughout the process?

"Coach (Jerry) Azzinaro."

Was your unofficial visit during the spring the first time you've been to Eugene?

"Yes."

Did you get an opportunity to take a tour around the facilities and see the campus while on your visit?

"Yes...I mean they have the best facilities in the country. What they have is unbelievable."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"Very high. I'm just hoping and waiting for an offer to come."

In your conversations with coach Azzinaro, has he mentioned a timetable for when you might be able to expect an offer?

"When I was up there, what he said is what they do is they take it very slow, so he was saying that right around this time they'd let me know."

When was the last time you spoke with coach Azzinaro?

"It was awhile ago. Every time I call, I always get his voicemail."

On average, how often would you say that you're in contact with him?

"I try him once a week."

What is it about Oregon that has you so interested in them at this point?

"Like I said, they have some of the best facilities in the country, academics -- the way they help their players out, Eugene is a great place and they're one of the best teams in the country the last three or four years."

Are you related at all to Oregon kicker Eric Solis?

"(laughter) No. I get that question a million times though."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Explosive coming off the ball, I have a good motor -- I don't stop till the whistle blows -- I'm aggressive and I'm good with my hands."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"For me, my favorite player is Ray Lewis. I know I don't play the same position, but I try to play like him; with a passion and go 100 percent every game because really, you never know when it will be your last."

What are you looking for in a program?

"The most important thing right now for me is being close to family and my support system."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to major in when you get to college?

"I'm pretty sure I want to major in history, but you never know when you get to college cause there's a whole bunch of other things you could do. I don't really know, but I think I want to major in history."

What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other schools?

"UCLA, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Boise State, Nevada, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Washington State."

Out of the schools that you've been hearing from and out of the schools that have offered you, do you have any favorites at this point?

"I'm trying to figure out my top three or four right now, but the two schools that are definitely in it right now are UCLA and Colorado."

As far as camps and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan on going?

"This summer is gonna be really busy, so whenever I get a chance I'll maybe go down to Utah to see Utah, but other than that I don't really have any plans for visits or camps...(I've been to) Oregon State, Oregon, Colorado, UCLA, USC and Washington."
