Catron Makes A Request

If it works for football so it should do the same for basketball. At least that is what senior post man Joevan Catron believes. Catron is making his final home appearance as an Oregon Duck on Saturday against Stanford in Matt Court and has asked fans to turn out wearing white.

Joevan Catron would like to see the fans in white on Saturday as he and fellow senior guard Jay-R Strowbridge's take the home court for the last time. The 3 p.m. (PT) tipoff could be something extra special for a the surprising Ducks and Catron thinks fans can add to the day.

“I can’t remember having a ‘White Out’ since I’ve been here,” Catron said. “When the fans do it for football games, it always adds to the experience. Coming out of the tunnel one last time on Senior Day, it would be pretty special to see Matt Arena in all white.”

In the past, Senior Day presentations have taken place prior to the opening tipoff, but this year the seniors will be honored following the conclusion of the Stanford game.

Headed into the season, many felt that the Ducks, under first-year coach Dana Altman would be fortunate to win a single game in conference play however Oregon has demonstrated a fierce competitiveness and have a serious shot of post season play. Oregon (14-12, 7-7) is currently tied for fourth place in the Pac-10. The Ducks are hosting California on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Stanford on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Ducks dropped an 85-77 decision to the Bears on Jan. 29th in Berkeley, but overtook Stanford 67-59 and won for the first time in Palo Alto in 24 years.

Catron leads the Ducks in scoring, rebounding average (6.5 rpg), field goal shooting percentage (.508, 124-of-244), field goals attempted and field goals made, while ranking second in minutes played. This season he has had seven of his eight career 20-point games and has led the Ducks in scoring 17 times this season.

Strowbridge is averaging 12.3 ppg, 50.0 percent on field goals, 45.8 percent on 3-pointers). He scored in double figures in six of the 10, tallying a career-high 26 points in last week’s home win over OSU, which is also a scoring record for Matt Court. The arena opened in January.

Tickets for both games are available for purchase at the Casanova Center ticket office, the Matthew Knight Arena box office, by phone at 1-800-WEBFOOT and online at goducks.com. Tickets are available in all sections for the UO-Cal game, with prices ranging from $14-$37. A limited number of tickets are only available in the Midcourt ($24) and Backcourt Terrace ($18) sections for Saturday’s game with Stanford.
