With one "really good" practice already in the books, Monday morning's practice was more of the same according to Oregon head coach Chip Kelly as the Ducks are only days away from their home finale versus Arizona this Friday.
With all the focus on a possible run to the national championship for the Ducks this season, a win this Friday over
Arizona
at Autzen Stadium would clinch at least a berth in the Rose Bowl for the second straight year. As impressive as that is to consider,
Oregon
head coach
Chip Kelly
says his team isn't getting caught up in possible bowl scenarios, instead choosing to focus on the Wildcats.
"Our method has been the same since day one," stated Kelly. "We're talking about playing against a really, really good Arizona team that in the last couple of years we've had some battles with. Our kids understand how talented a team they are -- I think they're ranked in the 20's -- so it's a good football team."
Friday's game also marks "Senior Day" for a number of Ducks, most notably players such as wide receiver Jeff Maehl and linebacker
Casey Matthews
-- two players that arrived on campus with Kelly when he was hired as offensive coordinator four years ago. For Kelly, all home finales for seniors are emotional, however he seemed to indicate that this particular day will hold added meaning.
"I came in with all those guys," said Kelly. "This is my fourth year, their fourth year...I think 'Senior Day' is always (emotional). It's a little bittersweet. You're obviously excited for them to get the recognition they deserve, but you also know it's going to be their last home game. This group right here is the all-time winningest class in Oregon history...I hope our fans turn out the way that they should and really make sure they're in the stands early because we're going to honor them about 15 minutes before the game."
